a beginning..

She smiled  and waved to the parting crowd
a past she was forced to leave behind
a smile she saved for the new beginning
that would take her aboard the tides of time

A world awaits beyond the waves
on which her ship of hopes set sail
the world that promises a life so new
that a fear inside shudders in shame

the smile ne'er once leaves her face
her dreams are safe within
and once she is welcomed to this world anew
the heart will help her thirst mind

ah! there it lies, beyond the ocean
the life promised; the world unseen
her eyes sparkle at the very thought
of living again, like a bird set free.
(i wrote this when i was 15 years old, when i was certain that my parents would shift me to another school, which frankly, i looked forward to. however, that never happened. still, this poem means a lot to me, for it has become a repetitive rerun in my life as i traverse several dimensions in the world that i am born to. All of us have to say goodbye at some point, only to say a welcome greeting to something else the next second. this poem is for those moments; for the new beginning)
